A few days ago, the U.S. imperialists, in cooperation with the Netanyahu regime in Israel, began a predatory war of aggression against the sovereign state of Iran, following the Iranian state’s rejection of the Trump regime’s ridiculous terms. Iran refused to agree to complete cessation of uranium enrichment and the exporting of its uranium reserves outside the country. The American imperialists started this war by bombing an Iranian military base outside Tehran. By doing so, Iran, Israel, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and likely others have been dragged into another war, endangering millions, if not the entire world., e.g. from a potential nuclear war initiated by Israel.
The Trump administration is trying to deny Iran “the inalienable right … to develop research, [produce] and use … nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without discrimination …” (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons [NPT], 1968, art. IV). And of course, we Americans should see that Trump and his billionaire-class friends are trying to distract from the Epstein Files.
With this, the fascistic Trump regime is committing a blatant act of aggression in clear violation of the sovereignty of Iran and and international law. For one, the U.S. cannot take military action against Iran, as “[a]ll Members [of the U.N.] shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means, …” and “[a]ll Members [of the U.N.] shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state …” (U.N. Charter art. 2, paras. 3-4).
Secondly, Iran, as reactionary as its government may be, has “the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense, …” (U.N. Charter art. 2, para. 4) and it is in the working and oppressed peoples of the world’s interest that Iran defends its sovereignty. How would the political situation be improved if Iran simply submitted to the US? It should be noted that the Iranians now have the benefit of Chinese intelligence, allowing them to see the U.S. military (through satellites) in ways they could not when they were last attacked in June of 2025.
There are more laws that Trump violated, which could be reviewed in depth, but most importantly, what American workers should remember is that “[t]he socialists must … support the most resolute, boldest, and most ruthless struggle of the colonial and oppressed nations against the imperialist powers of their ‘own’ country, if they want to remain socialists,” as stated by Lenin in “The Discussion on Self-Determination Summed Up,” 1916. As residents of the imperial core, we should not forget the vital role in the anti-war solidarity and anti-imperialist struggle.
